Spring Cleaning Your Wardrobe
With Spring just around the corner, it has never been a more perfect time to give your wardrobe a good spring clean! The coats, jumpers and winter clothes will soon be replaced with light tees and flowing skirts. If you’re anything like us, you’ll have a whole section of your wardrobe that you simply no longer touch. Standing in front of an overfilled wardrobe bursting to the seams can be overwhelming, but fear not Mandy’s Heaven have created a short, helpful guide below in order to get you organised so that you can make the most of your spring time wardrobe.
12 Month Rule
We all know that when you’re looking through your endless piles of clothes it can be difficult to part ways with items you've had for so many years. You've almost got an emotional attachment to them or might simply be thinking “I might wear it again” or “I’ll fit back into it”. But letting go is the first important step to an organised, clear wardrobe. So to make this task easier, ask yourself, 'have I worn this in the last year?' If the answer is no, then get rid, if you haven’t worn something in the last 12 months it is unlikely you ever will again.
Organise Efficiently
When committing yourself to a clear out, it is important to keep organised. The last thing you need is being overwhelmed with clothes and accessories dotted all over the room. Everything will get mixed up and you could end up throwing things away that you wanted to keep. To keep some kind of order try creating 3 piles: Storage, Donation/For Sale and Bin.
The storage pile should be neatly packed away, at the end of the day it is for clothing that you won’t wear during spring/summer but you do want to keep and therefore should not be a creased, jumbled mess! The next pile could be for donation or to sell, your local charity shops will welcome donations of any good quality clothing and for those that are almost too good to just give away, try reliable and trusted online auction sites such as eBay and Depop. Try taking some clear pictures of your clothes you wish to sell in good natural light and pricing them generously in order to entice people in. The bin pile should be full of clothing that is both too tattered and too worn to give away to charity.
Have a Place for Everything
I'm afraid that once you've conquered the enormous task of cleaning out your old and winter wardrobe, it’s not time for rest just yet, your current wardrobe needs putting back in an organised order. Consider putting your clothes into categories in order to ensure the infamous selection process every morning is as simple and easy as it ever could be! Try putting jeans in one place, dresses in another, possibly attempt colour coding if you're feeling really brave. This way you can keep track of what you already have and what you may need to invest in for the up coming season. Using a method like this will keep your wardrobe organised and clear, season after season.
Don’t Keep Anything That Doesn’t Make You Feel Good
The key to creating the best wardrobe is to get rid of clothes that don’t make you look or feel good. It could be the trendiest, most expensive item you own but if you don’t feel your best when you wear it then simply give it up! Fashion is supposed to be a fun and enjoyable part of life so ensure you keep it that way always!
